Resolved! Check permissions on /etc/pdns/pdns.conf

That pointed to the problem in that the user which has been created on the PDNS server cannot execute pdnssec. Well, it can execute the command, but it returns that backend error message [whmcs@pd1 ~]$ pdnssec check-zone testdomain.com Error: No database backends configured for launch, unable to fun...

That has already been followed and the schema is in place as-well
